This new limited edition collaboration combines modern watchmaking with car making heritage in a stunning 1960s style design. First introduced in 1969, the ‘Speedtimer' was a major innovation milestone in Seiko's watchmaking heritage. Nissan Motor Corporation's ‘Datsun,' Japan's leading sports car brand, launched in the same year.
This latest collaborative design is the first Speedtimer to feature the robust and reliable 6R in house automatic calibre and the slimmest ever 6R model in the brand's history, at just 11.95mm depth, 39.5mm diameter and 200m water resistance. In 1971, the Datsun 240Z car, also known as the Fairlady Z - adorned with Seiko logo sponsorship - won the East African Safari Rally, one of the world's toughest races. The Datsun 240Z parallels the Seiko Speedtimer with its stylish, resilient and reliable high performance.
This Speedtimer watch features many design elements from the original DATSUN 240Z rally car: the colour scheme, the font from the instrument panels of the vehicle and the DATSUN logo on the caseback, dial and clasp. The hard-coated bezel features a tachymeter speed measurement tool. The black LWG-approved leather strap adds a touch of elegance to a sporty design. With its super-hard coating, the flowing case shape of this model was first used in 1972 on the famous Seiko 'Panda.' Under the curved sapphire glass, the black dial is encircled by a countdown timer function. The strong Lumibrite coating on the inner-ring reference triangle allows for the countdown timer to be used with clarity during both day and night - essential for pitwork during long rallies.
Compact and comfortable, this Speedtimer has a diameter of 39.5mm, and a water resistance of 200m. The in-house 6R55 automatic calibre is accurate to -15/+25 seconds per day, with a three day power reserve. Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional' and ‘Specifications.'
